If I was in ANet's position, I would have done exactly what they've done with AP so far. It's served as a crutch that stopped Mesmers from becoming pretty much completely irrelevant in high-level play.

Now that it's looking like there are strong Mesmer builds now in both Domination and Illusion, it might be time to look at killing AP (possibly make it only recharge Assassin skills). This may also have the advantage of weakening MoP nuking by making the recharge of MoP actually relevant again, which may indirectly serve as another Mesmer buff by reducing the dominance of a mesmer-unfriendly team build.

I like this idea a lot. AP has become the gimic class reducing build. Don't know how to use a profession?...Run AP!

Dont have anything decent to run that is as broken as what other classes can run?...run AP! (or Er if your an elem :P) Seriously it was about the only option other than Fevered dreams to run pre buff, and sadly, the new elite skills are all very limited in scope, barring probably Esurge and some of the regular skills like shatter dels.

So long as ER is done over too :P and elems get the boost they need. As they kinda blow with their own offense unless its based off ap..for the most part as mes isnt the only class that "needed a crutch".. Maybe have it not effect pve skills instead? as no sin would run it anyway.

Only certain professions are allowed to use secondaries or alternative builds, remember?

Ether Renewal I don't see as being as much of a problem as AP for a couple of reasons. The first is the obvious one - that it only affects one profession. The second is that it hasn't pervaded the playerbase as much as AP has - even if it theoretically should, we haven't seen ER elementalists replacing monks in general play, nor have we seen a general abandonment of other elementalist builds.

A third reason is practical - having more professions that can replace a Monk may actually be good for the game.

....replace the monk? its not just head and shoulders above the monk and rit (n/rit also) it stands on their shoulders and poops on their heads!

Should be a viable alt, not a blatant quantum leap ahead replacement really.. and its the fact the bar is massively better than almost anything anyone else can run, and it needed toning down has nothing to do with how many ppl run it

Plus have you been to toa recently?...have you seen how many ppl are lfg with an ef infoozer? or glf ER infoozer? and not the crappy burning speed bonders either

Ok, now that we have had some time to play around with the updated mesmer skills which skills do you think will get used the most. Not talking speed clear stuff, just regular pve play. For me ive been sticking to playing PI and WW, they just seem to go well together and cof to help with the shutdown if needed. I tend to stay away form hex heavy builds because they are boring to play. If im not watching the field and rupting stuff then it just doesnt feel right for me, but thats just my playstyle.

I just did not want this thread to end talking about other proffesions and their builds. This is the mesmer section.

"Get used the most" may not indicate usefulness. This is the power rank, IMO:

1. Psychic scythe (team) build:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/p...t10442017.html

2. AP EVAS spammer.. slightly nerfed in last update, but still very strong. Best used with Discordway if going H/H.

3. Ineptitude build.

That's pretty much it as far as "general PvE" is concerned. Of course that you can run something else.

As to what people will mostly use, I imagine that Panic is going to be popular because it's quite a unique skill.

TL;DR

So which of these updated skills do heroes actually use correctly (decently)?

While PvE hasn't change mesmers actually get better in things that aren't all that important: shutdowns, it's fun to shutdowns mobs quite efectivly while dealing decent amount of damage. It deosn't make mesemer on par with other especially damage dealing proffesions (especially physicals) but at least you can feel that you are contributing to the team. Of course AP/Evas owns other builds but variety of decnt buidls grows bigger: armour ignoring damage in domination line : mind wrack,AEcho/ESurge,unnatural signet, cop - nice spike with aoe, illusion - Ineptitude - melee shutdown with nice damage, Panic -another way of effective shutdown and PI that can work both with domination or illusion line.

PI doesn't work with any mesmer line actually, just like Panic. It's a one-skill-mesmer after which you're usually better off with some non mesmer skills.

You should be ashamed of tldr. But anyway, heroes use all buffed skills correctly except PI which they rarely use. I'm not sure if this is intentionally coded so (by ANet) or not. There's still no reason to take mesmer hero in general PvE, except for fun sake.

It doesn't synergize well -yes ,but as long AoE kd it stand in its own usefulness in PvE whatever the build, of course if it's backfire or clumsiness it's counterproductive. Heros definietly prefer hexing over PI.

It would have AoE kd usefulness if heroes used it on recharge. Unless something happened yesterday to hero AI which made it better, I don't think PI is useful on a hero at all.

What I'd like to know is - did you take mesmer hero to some HM areas observing him casting skills, or are you just theorycrafting?

Gwen uses Panic just fine for me, and I don't find any anti-synergy between it and the other mes skills I put on her bar.

I observe Gwen activity, when she has hax skill on bar it's defnietly comes as priority for her, interupts come later and PI is pretty often random interupt but often as a second or third even.

I did yesterday's ZB in Slavers. I sure wished I had PI on my illusion bar. It does have synergy with many spells and can make up for areas where your bar is lacking.

I give Panic a second try and in Battle for Lion's Arch it worked wonders, , and i guess i have to admit i overlooked it a bit at first, it's a maintanable, reliable AoE interupt.

Late but...
Two human mesmers, Panic + Ineptitude spammer gogo!
Been plowing through VQ's & HM dungeons like that. Pull mobs into a ball, Panic to force everything to wand, kill with Ineptitude and friends in a way that makes elementalists cry. Its actually not entirely about the damage, but what you're mitigating by stopping nearly all skill use and interrupting every few attacks. With your normal spirit & minion entourage one monk does very nicely chilling alone in the back of the party.

So you're:

1. Pulling mobs
2. Balling them
3. With friends
4. With spirit and minion entourage
5. 6 heroes?

I have just one question: with that same setup, you tried what other heroes instead of, say, Panic hero?

The more im using panic, the more im liking it. It has very little synergy with the other mesmer hexes (besides wastrel's worry) but in a group with only one mesmer, Panic has really helped with party defence.
